Over the weekend, you sent your questions on healthcare to Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, as part of BlogHer's ongoing community journalism initiative connecting bloggers with legislators and political staffers to talk about healthcare reform. Sebelius answered them live at 9:30 AM Eastern time Monday, December 21.

I totally get "helmet head" now
Morra Aarons Mele December 21, 2009 - 12:25pmWhy do women politicians and leaders wear hairdos firmed up with bangs and hairspray?
Now I know- it's so their hair isn't in their faces when they ask important questions. My (blown out and "done") hair is in my face....Sebelius' doesn't move at all.
LOL

Great Interview! No Second Half of Question Though
Tacomamama December 21, 2009 - 12:45pmThat was a great interview, Morra, and I thought your hair stayed put just fine.
The Secretary did a great job with the first half of my question regarding affordability, but I notice she didn't answer the second half: how to make sure health insurance plans actually offer decent coverage at these affordable rates.
There are plans I could afford, but they do little more than offer a bit of safety net in the event of a truly catastrophic health situation. (And there are so many stories of people not getting coverage even then.) I want to know that if I'm paying for health insurance I am then actually able to obtain health care.
Thanks Morra!
Sarah Granger December 21, 2009 - 1:30pmThat was awesome. You did a great job!
I wasn't up when you were recording live, but I appreciate you asked my question and she answered it well. It's so hard to take on details of legislation that's so hefty in so many respects. And it is frustrating to hear we ranked last in that study of countries on preventative healthcare, but not surprising. I'm just glad to know we have someone smart and capable leading up HHS who understands these issues and can help us make some important progress. I hope to hear more details about preventative efforts of HHS and what's in the final legislation over the coming days.
Sarah Granger blogs at PainInTheMom about her health struggles. She also serves as Director of New Media for WomenCount, helping get more amazing women like Kathleen Sebelius into national leadership roles.
Impotent rage at our system and electeds, though
Morra Aarons Mele December 21, 2009 - 5:28pmSecretary Sibelius was great this morning.
But I hate that our futures are being decided by a couple of men who seem to need to grandstand more than they want to work for the good. It is hard to sit there and listen to an argument when you really want to scream at how things are going in DC right now. I heard a radio call in show caller describe it as "impotent rage" and I think that sums it up for me right now.

Great job, Morra!
Laracolvin December 21, 2009 - 11:38pmI still have some questions but am thrilled you had the chance to ask so many. It concerns me that the term Secretary Sebelius kept using when referring to healthcare was "the marketplace", but reality is reality, I suppose.
Thanks again for representing.
I Just Love Kathleen Sebelius!
ClaireMcCackle December 22, 2009 - 11:12amShe is a wonderful HHS Secretary and the most Pro-Abortion politician in Washington!
Thanks for the interview.
Just a reminder

Great job Morra, and thanks everyone for the smart questions!
Elisa Camahort December 21, 2009 - 8:09amThis community came through, during a #snowpocalyptic pre-holiday weekend, with a range of smart questions from various points on the ideological spectrum. Morra rocked, and so did all of you. Hope you were watching, because it was pretty cool.
It's not over yet, though, so let's see what really gets done this week.
