Who Needs To Dress Up, When America is Scary as Hell?
By April Byrd on October 31, 2012
It's sad really, it's evident that Halloween being a celebrated event across the country that it carries a certain spirit with it. Being an excessive thinker sometimes my spirit gets depressed anyway, but seemingly today more so than ever. I'm sure it doesn't help that today is a day people celebrate souls not being at rest, fantasy, evil, and witch craft.
Honestly, what really is saddening is thinking on the state of American life, the America inherited by my generation. The country is in a debt crisis, The Presidential candidates don't even seem like they live in or want the same "American Dream". To be perfectly honest America is a scary place to live in right now all by itself. Division and destruction looks like a very feasible end for this nation. Not to be a downer, I'm totally glad to be apart of a free nation and will be casting my vote soon, but I think a lot of people can agree with me that America is not a very stable place to be at the moment.
So the depressing thought is why should I succeed? Why should I strive to win, if the whole environment around me is going down? and the sad news goes much deeper for me being an orphan, feeling not wanted, not loved. Why shouldn't I just be reckless, careless, and show a total lack of value toward life, since it seems life didn't want me?
Why dress up, and pretend to be frightened, when there are so many things around us that can easily get us down? the truth is if we sit and focus on those things they most certainly will. Sometimes all these thoughts including where I come from do get me down, but the thing about it is I am great because of all these factors. The first shall be the last and vice versa, and when we are weak, in Christ we are made strong. I have a family bloodline like no other.
And as far as the destruction and doom of America goes, this honestly is not the final destination. If your treasure is on earth, your heart will be also, and let me tell you it will be as depressed as all this Halloween attire. When I get nervous about such things I always look to Revelations and read what it says. The book speaks of a new city: A new Jerusalem, in very good detail. So the children of God are royal people. If we are Kingdom kids, of a kingdom culture, then we should live a kingdom life, disregarding the economy and the spirit of depression this earth tends to bring.
So I won't let the depression of the 'spook-tacular' get me down, I will enjoy in the festivities, and I will be celebrating "A harvest". Probably just not like some people. I will dress up, but only as who I am and to be totally accurate:
I am a: chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that I should show forth the praises of Him who has called me out of darkness into His marvelous light; -1 Peter 2:9
