BlogHer Original Post

Whether you have already registered for #BlogHer16 or are still on the fence about coming (get off, sitting on that fence isn’t comfortable!), I bet you have looked to see who is speaking. This year, we have many great speakers and sessions offering ways to tell your story, monetize your blog and reach your goals. Here are just a few you won't want to miss!

Who You NEED to See Speak at #BlogHer16 (Based on Your Goals)

Honing Your Storytelling Skills

If you have thought about writing a memoir, we have a great group of storytellers who have perfected the art of a well-crafted story. Crystal Lewis-Brown will lead the discussion, which includes Jenny Feldon, Claire Bidwell Smith, and Jillian Lauren, the force behind Story & Soul in Los Angeles.

Do you prefer to tell your story through social platforms? Dorothea Bozicolona-Volpe will lead this dynamic panel of women, including Evelyn Ngugi, Jennifer Fishkind, Rachel Matos, and Heidi Nazarudin. They will share best practices for visual storytelling using Instagram, Pinterest and more.

Now, if you are ready to pitch your story to an agent or publisher, a panel of industry professionals will prepare you for turning your blog into a book.

Barb Dybwad will lead this session including literary agent Maria Ribas, publisher Denene Millner, and book promoter Kristen Frantz. They will share the secrets to writing a compelling query letter and show you how to repurpose your blog content into a book.

Show Me the Money!

Are you looking for new ways to make money with your blog? The speakers on the Monetizing Your Small-to-Medium Blog, Including Hyper-Local Tactics panel know just how to do it, and they will help you. Cora Harrington will lead the discussion with Jessica Woodbury, Yvonne Codes and Sarah Auerswald. Get ready to increase your income and grow your blog’s influence.

YouTube has been a great source of income and influence for the speakers in the Managing Your YouTube session. Sarah Penna, Whitney White, and Kandee Johnson know what it takes to monetize your videos and how to use the best features of YouTube to increase your reach and engagement. If you are looking to add video to your marketing arsenal, this is a session you don’t want to miss.

Once your blog starts making money, you may be ready to diversify your income with active, passive and non-monetary sources. Susan Getgood will lead the conversation with Gabrielle Pelicci, Erika Kendall, Marie Denee, and Mona Darling. This panel of experts will help you get your compensation priorities right and share a diverse range or income sources that will help you take your blog to the next level.

You Use Your Voice for What?

How can being funny be a catalyst for change? The ladies on the Comedy for Social Change panel will show you how. Jenny Yang leads a dynamite session with Akilah Hughes, Taz Ahmed, Zahra Noorbahksh and Luvvie Ajayi about moving the masses in real life using their platforms.

You will learn the kinds of funny content audiences will resonate with and how your platform can change minds and deepen conversations.

If you have been thinking about using your platform to champion positive change and smash the patriarchy and other forms of oppression, then we have a group of speakers to inspire you. Grace Hwang-Lynch will lead the discussion with Keren Taylor, Morra Aarons-Mele, Morgan Shanahan, and April Reign about how they have brought about change and created strategic alliances to make a difference.

There is a session for everyone at #BlogHer16, and I believe you will find exactly what you are looking for. Set your goals before the conference, check the schedule, then join me and some amazing people in L.A. for a good time. I will see you there!
