As the popularity of women-only travel increases so too does the travel options. According to a women travel study by AAA, the most popular chick trip activities in 2007 were dining out (86 percent), shopping (74 percent) and spa treatment (73 percent). However, with continued violence against women, a growing trend is a trip to the shooting range. For sometime now, women young and old have been attending shooting classes in preparation for such real life scenarios as break-ins, muggings and assaults. Many shooting ranges have a women's night to satisfy this increased interest.
Although I do not subscribe to gun ownership (pepper spray is more my speed), some women feel safer owning a handgun. These women are also quite proficient at buying and handling such weapons. According to one NRA instructor, when compared to men, women are better prepared when purchasing a gun and more skilled when training at the shooting range. This is because women do extensive research prior to purchasing a gun and have better hand eye coordination. They are also more likely to follow training instructions.
And just what are these women packin' when heading to class? Overall, women gun owners prefer the Smith & Wesson Ladysmith .38 revolver.
