Sparkle (1)
Do you ever wonder just that? You could have been a Roman gladiator in a heavy metal fighter's outfit fighting for your life had you been alive in ancient times. You could have been perched under a parasol at the turn of the century trying to keep the sun from freckling your peaches and cream complexion as a Southern belle. But you are neither. You are here now.
Everywhere you look people are connecting on their phones, computers, and they are making things happen. They are creating web sites, combining them, creating content, communicating this content, and why? Because they are reaching out in a need to touch one another heart and mind and it is one great miracle to watch. I suspect it could be powerful enough to help end war. I know it is that powerful. Let's see what happens.
Yesterday, I made a statement that if the laws were different and Arianna Huffington had been born in the United States, she would not only run for President, but have a great shot at winning. But that is not my statement. My statement is that The Huffington Post, now owned by AOL makes her possibly more powerful than the President in shaping thought and policy. I stand by this statement. So, we are all here for a reason at a particular point in time -- that very magical point at which we come into this world and that very magical point at which opportunities happen for us. Ms. Huffington was not lucky; she was prepared.
I suspect each of you are supposed to be part of this big cosmic mish mash in which we live, work, survive, and thrive. Your time is now. Your place is here. It's up to you to figure out why you were chosen to be here, right where you are right now and where you go from here.
My good friend told me that his dear friend was depressed. It was a thought so foreign to me that (apart from clinical or chemical depression) I couldn't imagine becoming depressed given this man's talent and opportunity for advancement in his chosen profession. Apparently, he wasn't moving fast enough. All I could think about was a recent trip to India where maimed children were filthy but still learning and were so grateful for the educations they were receiving, where limbless strangers smiled to everyone, and how the whole country seemed happy despite the circumstance.
I thought of Japan and how they were re-building because of the quiet strength they had shown and realized that this was cultural and wondered whether the United States could leave products on the shelves in honesty and I realized the answer was yes (maybe I am dreaming) and thought of all the good and decent people in the world and why we are all here at the same time. And again, I say, because we're supposed to be. Maybe we can indeed exist in harmony.
So, take joy in the knowledge that you and all of us are here for a reason. Now go make it happen!
I'm Patricia Rust
