Considering the state of the financial markets, it’s no wonder we’re
in love with Erica Weiner’s recycled vintage shoe clips. Why buy new
shoes when you can clip on an accessory that makes one pair go with
every outfit in your closet?
According to Erica, shoe clips were first manufactured in the
ornament-obsessed Victorian era, when instead of buying multiple pairs
of shoes, women dressed up their plain footwear with an endless variety
of detachable bows, buckles and jewels. Fast forward to the 50’s, when
Audrey Hepburn used them to embellish her iconic black ballet flats.
A jewelry designer who’s obsessed with found objects (she even makes
insect-like stick pins out of porcelain teeth from old dentures), Erica
bought up a huge stock of different styles from the 40’s through 60’s,
and reintroduced them as an au courant way to reduce, reuse and
recycle. We’re dancing all the way to the bank.
We’ve got 15 percent off and a handful of freebie vintage shoe clips to give away in our Fashion section this week.
