Lately, I have been thinking a lot about why it is so difficult for me to indulge myself, particularly my body. I wrote about an experience over a month ago on my blog, http://specialktreatment.blogspot.com/, and ever since, continue to struggle with the same theme.
I have too much of prospective, hypothetical criticism from a nonexistent father rooting around in my brain. I pick up a box of cereal and the editor screams in my head to filter out how much fiber, whole grains, sugar is within each serving. I have too much fear that if I don’t follow the lines of prescribed pop wisdom (e.g. stay away from white bread) that some authority figure will materialize and charge me with suicidal tendencies.
But, there comes a moment when that cinamon roll feed me spiritually as well as physically. Iam not talking about emotional hunger, but the freedom that comes from just letting yourself partake of what you truly desire.
How do you indulge yourself? And do you feel guilty for doing it?
