Why I'm Not Married

Why I'm Not Married

There are a number of reasons for which I am not married but my own bag of issues will be saved for a later date, perhaps with a nice candle and Michael Bolton streaming in the background. Or Kenny G.

In The Huffington Post, Tracy McMillan maps out six reasons why you and I are not married:

I was faced with a little dose of reality after this article. Silly me! You see, I thought the reason I wasn't married was my plaguing fear of commitment or because I identify as a wayward woman. I mean can I really be bothered with yet another identity make-over right now? I thought another reason might be because I'm still learning what I want in this world and life keeps handing me things I ask for (even when they are wrong for me) or because I have personal goals that simply need to be achieved before I can place proper focus on a meaningful relationship.

But thanks to Ms. McMillan, I now understand its maybe a combination of all of these, but most of all, it's because I'm:

1. Shallow
2. Slutty
3. Selfish
4. A liar
5. Just Not Good Enough

It doesn't burn, it only tingles.

The good news is that the first step in breaking any habit is to stop denying you have a problem. So, here on this day from a balcony in Miami belonging to my part-time boyfriend, I'm owning these less-than-beautiful qualities and even gone as far as to open my iCalendar to search for a perfect day to start working on them.

South Beach no place for character building.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
~Galatians 5:22
