Why I'm Thankful for Social Media This Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day 2009

On this day 4 years ago, the man of my dreams met my family. We had a Valentine's Day breakfast (pictured above) and had our first date as a committed couple. It was that day that we professed our love for each other, and decided we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

A few months prior I was living in NYC, trying to survive in the fashion marketing world, but unhappy because I was alone. I remember receiving a friend request on Facebook from this handsome guy who looked familiar, but I hadn't seen him in years. We grew up in the same church, and always spoke in passing but never really carried on a conversation. So, when I saw the friend request I knew it was my chance to try to get to know him. We messaged back and forth a few times, and eventually set up a date for when I was going to be back in my hometown, Florida. Our first date was Christmas Eve, and although at the time I didn't know it at the time, we were starting a relationship that would totally change my life.

Since 4 years has come and gone, I've never loved my husband more than I do now. We've already been through so much together, had our first child and have overcome things we never thought we would.

So, I'm thankful to social media for giving me a chance to find love, but not any kind of love. A love that would make me a better person forever.
