Why Sending Business Greeting Cards To Your Female Demographic Throughout the Year Works

You’ve probably heard of, or maybe you even do, send Holiday greeting cards to your customers. But sending greeting cards all year long? Sounds a little out there, right? And that’s exactly why you should start doing it.

When it comes to receiving greeting cards, most men could care less. But women really respond to business greeting cards. If you have a large female demographic, you should start sending business greeting cards throughout the year, at least quarterly. Why? For the reasons listed here:

Building a Relationship
Printing greeting cards show that you care about the recipient, and since women build relationships through showing people they care about them, by you sending greeting cards, you show that you care about your female customers. You also show that you don’t just care about them at the holidays.

Celebrating Birthdays
One of the quarterly greeting cards you send should be a birthday card. If you don’t know your customers’ birthdays, ask people to sign up for your newsletter or to receive special offers. Include a line for people to fill in their birthdays. Be sure to include info as to why you need their birthdays: “Receive special offers on your birthday” or something to that effect.

You’ll be more likely to get birthdates if you leave the year optional.

Celebrating someone’s birthday is personal. And by getting more personal with your female customers by sending them birthday cards, you’ll be on their minds every time that special day rolls around.

Women Like “Just Because” Things
What woman doesn’t love it when her husband does something nice “just because?” Same with businesses. Send two greeting cards that say something to the effect of “just because you’re our customer.” Pair these two cards with the birthday and holiday card, and you’ve got all your quarters covered for the year.

Greeting Cards Keep You at the Top of Women’s Minds
If you’ve just received a greeting card from someone, you’ll be more likely to think about that person for at least a few days, if not a week or more. This is especially true of businesses. The next time a female customer needs to pick up some item that you carry, even something mundane as file folders, she’ll think of your store because you’ve recently sent her a card.

Building Loyalty
People feel bad when they go against their loyalties. By sending greeting cards year-round, you show that you’re being loyal to your customer, and she’ll want to feel loyal back. Loyalty not only includes repeat business, but word-of-mouth marketing. Your customer is sure to tell her family and friends about receiving greeting cards from you for no reason, and if your greeting cards are attractive, she’ll probably even display them on the mantle. A conversation starter that stars your business? Priceless.

This is my very first BlogHer post so I hope it ends up in the right place and if it doesn't, my apologies!
I recently opened an Etsy shop selling fun notecards and just this week, I designed 5 corporate thank-you cards. I have had so many people ask for business related thank-you cards so I grabbed the opportunity.
Trouble is, in this economy, businesses don't have $ to spare on extras never mind paying a premium for handmade. I have no idea how these will be received. I sold 5 the same day I listed them, which is great but we'll see how they do in the long run.
I agree with ilovegraphics. Success in business has so much to do with relationship building and maintenance. A thoughtful card with an expression of gratitude is a simple gesture that can go a long way.
