Wine Plus March Madness

This weekend, I enjoyed some swirling, and swigging of wine over some March Madness madness.

I started with this inexpensive rosé, which is a little heavy for a rosé, but when it's very cold is a refreshing drink.

When the rosé was gone I had more than my fair share of this bottle from Creekside Estate Winery.

This is my idea of a yummy Sauvignon Blanc. Firstly, it's made with Ontario grapes; light and crisp it goes down easy with lemon, grass, melon and just a hint of green pea on the nose. There's something a little sweet on the finish, like a jolt of pineapple under all that tart acidity; perfect for watching young men get all steamy on an unusually warm Sunday afternoon.

A group of us throw $20 in a pot and make our picks for the college teams. I picked Purdue to beat Marquette for the final match, which brings everyone in the room to tears laughing whenever I mention it, but I felt the Marquette grape, a hardy French hybrid distantly related to Pinot Noir and Purdue, from the old French term used to describe a soldier sent to a particularly dangerous mission, were noble monikers and I'm sticking to my strategy. I've lost Purdue, but go Marquette! Go swirling, and swigging lots of wine 'till the end of March and beyond!
