Visiting Chicago last weekend, I made up for all I wasn't able to do when I was in the windy city for the BlogHer conference. Okay -- I didn't get to do everything I wanted to do, but I did manage to wine and dine at Green Zebra.
Green Zebra's a Chicago restaurant that boasts a seasonal menu with produce from local farms. The offerings are vegetarian-focused, but not totally vegetarian -- and very sensitive to vegan needs.
I'm not vegan myself -- and I don't think anyone needs to be vegan to lead an eco-life. Still, I loved the food at Green Zebra -- and the wine even more so --
All the portions are small -- meaning you can try a lot of different dishes without wasting food. I started with the Roasted Mushroom Broth, rosemary dumpling, braised greens, moved on to the Slow Roasted Shittake Mushrooms, in crispy potato with savoy cabbage, and ended with the Warm Carrot Cake, white bean puree, baby bok choy, almond.
All of it was yummy, and much more eco-friendly than regular restaurant fare. To top it off, I took the CTA bus home with my friend Anne --
Want to eat out the eco-way? Plug your zip code into Sustainable Table's Eat Well Guide database to find the eco-friendly farmers' markets, stores, and restaurants near you!
Diane of Sustainable Table kept a nice blog about the recent Eat Well Tour. Jul of Veggie Chick says Sustainable Table's great for locating your nearest farmers' market, and The Happy Medium of Accentuate the Positive enthuses she located her nearest Slow Food chapter via the app. Hope you have similar yummy luck --
