Winter Hibernation

I was skimming the internet today, as I often do in the mornings, and I came across this post from women's health guru Alex Jamieson (some of you might remember her as Morgan Spurlock's vegan chef girlfriend from Supersize Me). I've followed her ever since I saw the film, because I think she's an amazing woman with a compelling message. This week, she talked about hibernation.

I'll bet that if I polled all of you fine ladies, many of you would say that you're not getting enough sleep, especially with the holidays looming. Sleep is an important part of our daily cycle - we need it to heal our bodies, rest our minds and to recoup the energy we use en mass these days. Alex has a great idea to "hibernate" for two weeks, which in this lifestyle, means getting to ned well before midnight so that you have many hours of solid, deep sleep before the sun comes up.

I know it's difficult to get to bed early, especially if you have kids, work or other time-consuming commitments, but it's important to take care of yourself, especially during a time of year were A) cold and flu bugs hide around every corner, and B) we're already running ourselves ragged. Let this be a gentle reminder to try to get enough sleep, which will inevitably make your season a little brighter during daylight hours!
