WINTER MELTDOWN by Tracey Jackson
I don’t know about anybody else but the ravages of the cold have left me looking and feeling like a total wreck. Ping-ponging from the frigid dry air outdoors to the hot dry air indoors wreaks havoc on every part of the body.
Last week my hair looked I was doing a method audition for the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. It was dry and stringy. The parts that weren’t somehow glued to my head were sticking out in little fly-away shards.
My skin looked and felt like crepe paper and it was itchy all the time. That may be TMI, but my guess is I’m not alone here.
And then my face! I looked like one of those dolls made out of dried apples, only they tend to have better hair than I.
On top of all this you add that pasty pallor due to no exposure to sunshine and it’s pretty depressing.
There are ways to combat this condition that do not involve a trip to the Caribbean. You can actually do it with a visit to the drug store. And if you want splurge take thee to the hairdresser.
First thing I attacked was my hair. I love the Dry Bar. OK the name sounds like that they dry out you more. But they are actually a wonderful new chain that has sprung up around the country, all they offer is blow outs. As I over heard someone say there the other day; Blow dries are the new manicures.
I went in and said help. They took one look at me and said you need a shot. Sure, whatever will make my hair stay remotely near my head.

The there is the face. You don’t need to go spend money on a fancy facial. Neutrogena makes a great moisturizing facial.
Then of course there is the whole dry eye syndrome. One of my favorite products in any weather is something called Clinique Even Better Eyes.
Then there is the issue of the gray, winter, sun denied skin tone. A tube of Nars Illuminator works some pretty amazing magic.
And don’t forget to keep your insides moist as well. Drink a lot of water. Just because it’s not hot out does not mean you don’t need to be hydrated.
