Women Get the Right to Vote (Finally!), But What About Pay?

And after 72 years of advocacy, women were granted the right to vote
on August 26, 1920. Wow. Do the math on that one...only 78 years ago,
women couldn't vote. My grandmother wasn't born with the right to
vote...so crazy to think about for those of us who grew up with the
expectation of that privilege.

And 72 years later, women are still struggling for equal access to
jobs and for equal pay. In 2007, women earned 77 cents on the dollar,
compared to men. African American women were paid 72 cents on the
dollar and Latinas, 60 cents, according to the US Census Bureau.

Let's face it, we are talking about fair pay for EVERYONE...not just
women. We are asking that people performing the same jobs with the same
performance levels be paid similarly. I mean, it makes sense, right?

The negative effects of this type of systemic discrimination reach
far and wide. Families, single parent and two parent income households,
all are deeply impacted by the reduction in wages. And with 80% of
household purchases coming from women consumers, our capitalist economy
seems to be shooting itself in the proverbial foot.

Follow my logic here, lower pay for women + women purchase 80% of household items = lower rate of consumerism.

Seems like paying at an equitable rate makes sound business sense, doesn't it?
