I have just heard of another instance in which a man gets in trouble because he believed what his woman said. This woman told her man that he did not have to give her a birthday present since he had already given her a little something nice the week before. So the man did not get her another present for the big day. The woman got angry. The man's old-married friends then clued him in to the ways of women, that is, that women don't say what they mean and NEVER believe them when they say they don't care about something.
I am not happy. I DO say what I mean and resent when other women reinforce the belief that you can not trust women to be truthful in expressing their feelings. When I say I don't want presents, I mean it. If I have a preference for something, I say it. Unfortunately my husband doesn't always believe me because he has heard plenty of tales about women like the one mentioned above. Well, I learned my lesson early on.
Why are women so afraid to tell the truth about what they expect or want? Men are not mindreaders. In relationships, they are simple creatures who need direction. Imagine how annoying it is to have to guess what your spouse REALLY means and then bearing the brunt of their passive-aggressive anger when you guess wrong. Not a fun game to play.
And so, this is my plea to all women--say what you mean and mean what you say!
