2009 will be the year for midterm elections in Mexico. Turnout is expected to be really low: 37% to the most. Legislators will be elected in the Chamber of Deputees (House of Representatives), 6 state governors will be chosen and local representatives (majors and other positions) will be voted. Most political parties are earning to win the House in order to put pressure on the Executive and increase their possibilities in the 2012 presidential election.

I will be blogging on women's partiticipation in the process mainly on two areas:  women as candidates and women and voters on one side, and gender issues in the campaign on the other. Who are the candidates? Where do they come from? Who supports them? What's their history? How do women voters decide? How will they participate in the election? What are the topics they are interested in? I will also be analyzing gender issues as proposed by the political parties. What will the implications for women be? What are the specifics?

There are other topics that are nos specifically gender oriented, but that affect women and we are interested in them: security, corruption, drug trafficking, accountability. They will be analyzed, too.

The conclusions and findings will be published after the election on the 5th of July.
