I mentioned yesterday that we spent quite a bit of time crafting over the weekend while Nana was in town. I didn't capture photographs of Nana's afghan or Corrin's lace, but I do have an update on my own projects.
On Friday I focused on the Who Scarf, and I'm happy to report that I am about to finish off the last stripe of green. That marks the first "completed color" in the pattern, and makes it feel as if I'm finally coming to the end.
Don't get me wrong -- I still adore garter stitch, and I can't wait to see Mike actually wearing his scarf to call Contra dances. But I'm really looking forward to finishing the first project I began when learning to knit. I expect an unparalleled rush from the accomplishment.
After several hours of knitting, I was ready for something different on Saturday, so dug through my stash and pulled out a different skein of sock yarn to attempt Nancy Bush's Classic Sock again. As you can see from the photo, I clearly have a winner!
In all of my previous sock-knitting attempts, I've been unhappy with the thinness of the fabric or the crazy gauge issues. It turns out that not all "fingering weight" yarns are the same: I've been using too fine a yarn. I don't know why it took me a year to figure that out. Ugh. However, as you can see above, I have more than half of a cuff of plump little stitches. The ladies size fits me very nicely -- I was able to pull the cuff over my foot (needles and all) last night to test it.
The yarn that I'm using is Patons Kroy Socks in the Turquoise Jacquard colorway. Thus far I really like it! I'm not sure if one skein will be enough for a whole sock, but luckily I have three; a gift from Mom last Christmas. It's a sturdy but soft yarn, and the color shifts are fun to work with.
Stay tuned for more fun times next week -- I expect to have tales about heel flaps and other constructions! And if you're looking for more works-in-progress goodies, head over to Tami's Amisfor the list of participants.
During the month of November, I'm participating in NaBloPoMo; I'll be writing every single day. If you have a topic request, be sure to share it with me by leaving a comment here.
