World Domination or Go With the Flow?
By royalescuderi on June 14, 2012
As I fumble my way through this life, I continue to be plagued by the ever-present feeling that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here. It’s rather disconcerting to say the least. As I talk to others, I find that I am not the only one who struggles with this dilemma.
Are we supposed to have a well thought out plan for world domination, which we simply follow step by step, slowly inching our way toward an ultimate goal that we have predetermined?
Or as some suggest are we simply meant to go with the flow, perhaps setting our intention or having a vision of our future, remaining open to opportunities that life sends our way?
It occurs to me, that perhaps it doesn't really matter which we choose. Whether we carefully plan our steps or whether we simply take the one that appears before us, what matters is that we take the next step.
Is it a greater tragedy to know the next step we need to take, yet refuse to take it or to be presented with an opportunity and turn our back on it in fear?
Maybe the greater lessons here is to stop spending so much time worrying about what we're going to do next or which is the better life philosophy and simply take the next step that appears before us.
History is filled with countless examples of people who have lived enviable lives of great achievement. Some carefully set goals, made plans, and took pre-determined steps according to a specific timetable and order. Others just grabbed the opportunities that came their way and ran with them.
What they have in common is not the way they lived their lives, but that they did, they not only planned or accepted what came their way, but they decided, they acted instead of spending their time asking Should I? What if? What happens next? What if I fail? What if it's not the right time? What if it's not the right choice?
Maybe, just maybe, we ought to spend less time debating the best or right way to go about our lives and more time doing the things that move us forward.
Right now, today, this week, either:
Plan and take the next step
Look around you and grab an opportunity that comes your way
