Writing Challenge Let-Down

One of the major considerations at the end of a successful writing challenge run, for me, is the subsequent let down as soon as I take time to breathe.
Why? Because I have nothing pushing me for the next day; the anticipation factor is gone.
It happens for me nearly every time. A sense of purposelessness takes over, a listless wandering of mind and body. Focus has been removed from the outside and time takes on new dimensions unrelated to what I've just experienced.
This Let Down response isn't unusual. It happens to anyone who's been geared up and pushing themselves for an extended period of time toward one fixed goal with delineated objectives along the route. Winding down after the attainment of the goal is difficult.
Enter new challenges. Writers need stimulation on a regular basis. It comes in different forms, for different purposes, but it always comes.
This morning while a large group of us discussed and commiserated one of our latest challenge completions yesterday, one of our number issued her own challenge for us.
Submit one polished piece of work to a market each day through the month of May.
That was some challenge, all right. And many of us, staring down the throat of Let-Down Syndrome, took up the guantlet and cheered. It didn't matter that all of us are up to our eyebrows in work that's been sliding around that back burner for the past month.
This was a chance to actually get something at the end that we could show around the coffee shop. This was an opportunity, a push, to get us off our hard drives and onto the marketplace with work that's been sitting idle for weeks or months.
So, now you know. I'll be working to move a piece a day from hard drive storage to publication--no small feat, but one that's necessary and productive. I'm hoping that it's habit-forming as well.
