The Verizon network has been down here in Albuquerque. It has been down since Saturday morning at 8:30am. It is currently Monday night. Saturday afternoon, Cece went to Verizon Corporate and was told their network was down because they were upgrading their system and it was not going so well. That was an understatement!
Cece was on call this past weekend and had to deal with calls that were crises, and life or death issues involving fragile people. Every time a call came in, it was immediately dropped. She would then try to redial and the call would not connect. Then when she realized this and tried to disconnect the call, it would not hang up. Her phone was dead and she could do nothing with it. Other times, she would hear people as if they were talking through a mouthful of oatmeal. Or other times she could not hear anyone at all, after having a long discussion about the problem the person had called about. When she had to call the police or call and report a crime, she kept disconnecting and had to try to call back. It was like she was in high school or mid school pranking people…but this quickly became NOT funny! Cece was very stressed out because she could not do her job.
Each time the problem was reported she was told that no one could do anything about it, that those that could were working on it and we all just had to wait. Cece is still waiting.
Again this afternoon, she went to the Verizon site to see if there was any chatter about the problem. When she opened the web site a bold headline came across the top of her screen, “Your Phone Has Been Through A Lot.” Cece asked, “What about me? I have been through a lot too! Never mind the damn phone!”
