Is your tree planted by the water or do you fear when heat comes?

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”  Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) 

Death is a funny thing.  Even in the midst of our darkest hours, God allows beautiful sceptres of light to filter their way through our fog of grief and brighten the innermost circle of our hearts.  And remember: death is not limited to the loss of a loved one; there is the death of a job/career, the death of a marriage, the death of a relationship (friend, co-worker, child, mum or dad) or even the death of something more tangible like a house or a vehicle.

When mummy was ill, we came to the point where she had to be fed with a syringe. Was it hard for us? Yes.  Did God support us? Most definitely!  God sent someone (amazingly just like that) with baby food, a kind gentleman with an oxygen machine, and a professional who set up an IV unit in her bedroom.  He sent friends to gently stroke her frail hands and sing her favourite hymns.  As time inevitably and all too quickly slipped through our hourglass, God reminded us of His love in simple but meaningful ways via sun kissed heads of waving sugar cane, stunning flowers and brilliant blue seas to gaze upon as we drove to and from, and then back again.  Read more
