You're Stronger Than You'll Ever Know, Girly Girl!
By ChristinaJavete on June 17, 2014
When I turned 30, I realized that I will always be a girly girl no matter what, and being that meant I didn’t have to also be the shy, passive, girl that went along with that “idea” of being girly.
I blame it on people who decide what you’re like and tell you “that that’s so you!” For example, a friend of mine through high school and into adulthood would always say, “Oh, Christina! You’re just so passive. You’re just so quiet. You’re just so sweet!” When in fact, just because I was quiet for that ONE time we were at a party I had no idea who anyone was, did not completely sum myself up as a “quiet” or “passive” person. It was purely situational.
As for being called “sweet,” I did not mind so much but sweet people tend to get walked over, or seen not as strong since “she’s just so sweet!” The sweet girls NEVER cause a scene or talk back, they just let it slide. See what I mean?
Those words stuck with me as my relationship with this friend went on. I started to believe that I was like that when I didn’t really think I was. I didn’t have to courage or didn’t want to bring it up because I didn’t think it was that important. It wasn’t until I got older that I decided those descriptions did hurt and did not describe me. I had to finally stand up for myself and tell my friend that, “Hey, I’m not passive, I’m not the quiet one, yes, I’m sweet but that doesn’t mean you can do shit cause you just know I’ll let it slide. Stop saying that.” Ppffft. It felt good to finally speak up and out to her. Needless to say, she was shocked that her quiet, sweet, and passive friend talked back to her.
Someone told me once that everyone is a work in progress, whether or not they admit it. We are constantly growing, changing, learning, and adapting ourselves to our present world and circumstances. I know that even if you’re not a girl girl, you are still strong just as so because you are a woman! Ladies, we got this!
Here’s to being girly girl, or whatever YOU choose to describe yourself, and always being strong, tough, and brave for things that matter!!
Do you consider yourself a girly girl? If not, what do you consider yourself? No matter what you identify with, can you relate to being a work in progress? I’d love to know!
Thank you always, for reading!!
