Fourth of July Grilling: Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings

Featured Member Post

With the Fourth of July just around the corner, I’m excited to share this fantastic recipe for finger-lickin’ good Zesty Honey Sriracha Grilled Chicken Wings. We really don’t need an excuse to use our grill and you can be sure we’ll be grilling these sweet and spicy babies again next week. One of the most popular recipes from this blog pinned on Pinterest is for my Honey Sriracha Glazed Chicken and I completely understand why.  The lovely sweet taste of the honey and oranges complement the intense spicy heat of the Sriracha.  So since my family loves this glaze so much, and apparently you do too, I thought I’d rework the recipe only slightly and pair it with chicken wings instead of chicken breasts and cook them up on the grill.

These Zesty Honey Sriracha Grilled Chicken Wings grill up so quickly, you really do have to watch them. Grab a beer and be sure to stand nearby to flip them. They’re perfect for any cookout you might be having and they’re wonderful if you’re serving a crowd. I like to serve it with a little ranch dressing because I find it helps temper the heat a bit.  And if you’re especially daring, add a bit more Sriracha. To my surprise, a few of my readers thought the chicken breasts could use a little more heat. This kinda surprised me since I’m a Louisiana girl and grew up on Tabasco sauce. I thought they were plenty spicy. But hey, make them the way you like them. I just recommend you add a little Sriracha at a time…that stuff is potent!

I begin by preparing the delicious marinade. I mix together barbecue sauce, orange zest, Sriracha, honey, and Dijon mustard and add in the chicken wings. I let them marinate for at least 30 minutes--the longer the better.

Then I place them on the grill.

Make sure the wings are covered with marinade, you’ll want the wings to hold on to those delicious flavors.

EJ and I had fun cooking together. He flipped the wings and I followed up by adding a flavorful and spicy orange and honey glaze.

Just go ahead and pour all of the remaining glaze on the wings. Don’t waste a bit of that deliciousness.

Let the chicken wings cook a little while longer and then take them off the grill. Look at these! Don’t they look good?

Finally, reserve a little glaze to pour over the chicken wings.

The warm glaze gives these chicken wings a sweet and tangy flavor and I think it would be perfect for your July 4th cookout.

You may have noticed my pictures might look a little different. A little sharper perhaps?  It’s because my wonderful husband bought us a new camera! I’m so excited. I didn’t know how bad my older pictures looked until I saw how vibrant and clear the pictures taken with the new camera are. I’ve been playing around with the settings and EJ says I really do need to read the manual. I tend to not like to read manuals, but in this instance I know I’ll have to.

So give these Zesty Honey Sriracha Grilled Chicken Wings a try. You’ll love them!

Ingredients

  • MARINADE
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup Sriracha
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 5 pounds chicken wings
  • GLAZE
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest

Mix the barbecue sauce, orange zest, orange juice, Sriracha, honey and Dijon mustard together in a large bowl.

Add the chicken wings and toss to combine. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Heat the grill to medium-high heat.

Place the chicken wings on the grill and grill about 8 minutes per side.

While the wings are grilling, prepare the glaze. Melt the butter in a small saucepan on a medium-high heat. Whisk in the honey, mustard and orange zest. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low.

Pour a little of the glaze into a small bowl. When you flip the chicken over, brush a little of the glaze over each chicken wing and continue cooking. Discard the glaze in the bowl.

After the wings are thoroughly cooked, place them on a large serving platter and pour the remaining glaze from the pot over the wings.
