You know how the hot new gym class literally changes from month to month? One day, it's hot yoga. The next, it's zumba. Well, here is a blogger who has tried them all and describes them for you so you can choose which one fits best with your personality.

Lori from Write Heart and Open Mind writes from Denver about mindful living, parenting and open adoption. Her blog (formerly known as Weebles Wobblog) is probably familiar because she was named by Parenting magazine a must-read blog. And once you read this exercise post, you'll see why.

I loved Lori's rundown of gym classes because she's a regular person like me -- she prefers books and the computer to lifting weights, but she also knows that she needs exercise, so off to the gym she goes. Personally? I'm leaning towards Bhangara.

Go over to her blog to read more about the various exercise classes.

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her novel about blogging is Life from Scratch.

...to Zumba teachers. What's your advice for people who have hips that just don't move in all those directions?

You're right about the music being awesome. There's such a wide array of music used. In the most recent class I was in, there were muezzin sounds and Arabic music.

Would love to attend your class, Byn.

I've taught Zumba for 3 1/2 years and I STILL love it. It seems fresh and new to me all the time. They are always adding new rythms and international music variety. I think its awesome!

I really wish I could make time for yoga or pilates, though, that would be the best thing for me.

It's great that Zumba recognized that not all people want to (or are able to) bounce around. Good for the Zumba people for offering choices.

Thanks for bringing this up!

You know it's a good activity when you finally look up at the clock and say, "already!?" instead of "it's only!"

I am with Oprah, I hate exercise. But I have found Zumba to be a fun way to break a sweat. No need to feel competitive in this fun class, just alter the moves to meet your level of coordination. Also, a lot of the senior centers offer low impact zumba which is still challenging but geared more towards the less coordinated of the world like me. It is called Zumba Gold. Lots of options and lots of fun with zumba, a must try.

I love it when I'm completely engaged in an activity and forget that I'm actually working out.

Sounds like you find that in all of the exercise classes/formats that you mentioned.

Thanks for great descriptions of some awesome exercise choices.

...but if you look around there are many, many other gym classes to suit your needs.

Today I tried, for the first time, Drums Alive.

It's good to mix it up on occasion, and remember how it is to learn something new.

Zumba is FANTASTIC!!!! It's best when done in a class - either at a studio or gym. Zumba is most fun when you are doing it in a large group and not along with a video. It's so much fun, and you do not feel like you are working out. Give it a try and enjoy!!!!

Back when I belonged to the Y in Montreal I used to take a hi/low dance aerobics class. I sucked at it (I am, shall we say, uncoordinated) but I loved it.
