#BlogHer20 Healthy at Home – Connecting with Community and Looking Ahead

Another virtual conference in the books! Wednesday, May 20th marked #BlogHer’s second digital event, #BlogHer20 Healthy at Home. Our incredible community of creators, entrepreneurs, influencers, and beyond logged on to connect with and learn from each other during this time of crisis — and it surpassed our wildest expectations.
#BlogHer20 Healthy at Home was, in a few words, a giant love-and-learning-fest. We had a half-day of programming teeming with incredible celebrity panelists, a chatbox overflowing with messages of love and support (and even a follow for follow chain), implementable learnings from our #BlogHerU sessions, and so much more. Read on for just a few highlights of an amazing day!
Wanna rewatch or catch something you missed? We’ve got you! You can still access the entire event by using your registration link. If you never registered at all (don’t worry, we forgive you) you can register here (and even skip to the parts you fancy!)
How to Work Smarter, Not Harder, at Home with Marie Forleo and Amanda Lederman
Marie Forleo said it first in her best-selling book, but yesterday our #BlogHer family proved its truth — everything is figureoutable, especially when we lean on each other and remember that we’re pushing forward together. Check out some of Marie’s other incredible quotes — besides the catch-phrase that is now my quarantine-mantra.
“I was born to get stuff done.”
“In our culture right now, we’ve become time-starved. Even this energy, in and of itself, can be detrimental. We spend time focusing on the time we don’t have rather than enjoying the time we do. Start a new narrative — I have time for everything that’s important to me. If it’s important enough I will MAKE the time.”
“It’s not about being perfect, it’s about taking care of YOU — because you’re your most important asset in this life.”
“Create before you consume. Especially at a time like this, there is so much incoming, so much news. That is a form of consumption, you are taking in the stress and negativity of the world. What would you like to create? Can you practice creating before you consume? It’s not that we want to be ignorant, but we want to prioritize.”
“As high achievers, most of us have the tendency to muscle through and push to a breakthrough. Actually, give yourself a break! Walk away and do something that is not productive at all. Especially at home, you can very easily overwork and push yourself. Step away from the work buffet and give your beautiful brain a break!”
“Be kind to yourself — don’t expect yourself to be a superwoman in the middle of a global pandemic!”

Alicia Silverstone on Living the Kind Life
Creator of mykind Vitamins and generation-defining actress Alicia Silverstone joined us for a candid conversation on practicing what she preaches — specifically, keeping herself and her family to her “Kind Diet.”
“When kids don’t eat ‘good,’ they don’t act ‘good.’ Eating well is the best way to have smooth, healthy relationships, not to mention warding off heart disease! Make sure you’re eating whole grains and greens.”
“People come up to me about The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama, nothing is greater than at a book signing hearing from people who have transformed their lives. I’ve seen the power of what this information can do! You’ll always have people who will troll, but that’s such a small sound in a big picture.”
Bonus quote for our Clueless fans!
“We’ve been trying to figure out a Clueless reunion but it’s tricker than you think. Stay tuned!”

Working Mom’s Playbook to Quarantine with Karoline Kurkova, Eve Rodsky, & Dara Tresedor
Our CEO Samantha Skey took to our screens alongside these seriously hustlin’, money making mamas on how they’re navigating life during quarantine and setting themselves up for success as professionals and parents.
“Remembering teamwork — we’re a family and we need to work together to do fun things and not fun things. Teaching our children to be more independent and responsible. And appreciating each other for what we do. This is humbling us all and it’s good to remind us how lucky we are.” — Karolina Kurkova
“When emotion is high, cognition is low. Invest in your communication like you’re investing in toilet paper right now!” — Eve Rodsky, Author of Fair Play.
“We’re used to physically running from one thing to the next instead of making the most of what we’re doing now. Being in the same physical area is causing us to be more present. It’s not just the destination, it’s the journey.” — Dara Tresedor

Fearless Friendship with Casey Wilson & June Diane Raphael
These comedy power-houses logged on for our conference to do what they do best — join forces, crush whatever it is they’re collaborating on, and keep their audiences giggling.
From Casey Wilson…
“Every business is hard, but many people don’t get to go through a career as a team. You’re emboldened! You can egg each other on in a good way to achieve your dreams, which you might not do alone.”
“I wasn’t aware that on Zoom, when you hide self-view, other people can still see you. I was on a school call, laying on my husband, drinking wine and making fun of people!”
“It started about the Housewives, but we have a deep love for these women. It’s a comedy podcast but we also discuss our lives. It’s been a great collection of people to talk about garbage, but also so much more.” — on Bitch Sesh
From June Diane Raphael…
“When women come together it’s remarkable what’s possible.”
“I’m grateful for our friendship because it drastically changed the course of our lives. I’m so proud of our relationship, that we’ve remained best friends for this long and have been able to collaborate together and explore our own stuff as well. We’ve grown separately and together.”
“With my second kid I had a tough transition back into the workforce. The Jane Club started with the idea that women should not have to hide their care-taking — they should center and honor it.”

EVEN MORE WORDS OF WISDOM
It was such a pleasure to watch so many important, uplifting conversations unfold on our screens. Read on for even more great tidbits from our other incredible speakers.
From JoAnna Garcia Swisher…
“We’re all experiencing this quarantine together — it’s an incredibly traumatic event. It’s not time to judge, but know people are doing what’s best for their families, to take this head-on and try to make the best of it.”
From Jamie Lynn Spears on TikTok…
“There are a whole set of new rules for this and I’m learning from an 11 year old! We’ve really enjoyed it at this time to do something different and laugh at ourselves. It’s good to laugh, especially in times like this.”
From Poppy Montgomery on coping with quarantine…
“Don’t get too far ahead — the anxiety and the what ifs can make you crazy. We’ve been put in time out with no end time. Go to your room indefinitely! So, breathe through it.” – Poppy Montgomery on coping with quarantine.”
From La La Anthony…
“I’ve learned patience across the board in life, family career. I’m learning to slow it down and appreciate these moments. My mom’s favorite saying is “one day at a time,” but that’s all you can do — be grateful for a new day and practice patience.”
From Roselyn Sanchez…
“Be grateful. Everybody’s going through this, it’s not the Roselyn Show. It’s not about you.”
