Meet Chiamaka and Chinonye Olisekwe—the Famous Sisters Behind Diva Sensations

Diva Sensations, the Canadian-based Nigerian-born YouTube and TikTok stars are comprised of 22-year-old twin sisters Chiamaka and Chinonye Olisekwe. They originally got their start when they were 13 in 2013, and since then have managed to garner over a million TikTok followers and 202,000 YouTube subscribers. As for what’s in the store for the duo, read below to see what they’d like to accomplish next and how they got their start as the now viral Diva Sensations.
Tell me about yourselves – how did Diva Sensations start?
We’ve been dancing since we were in our mom’s belly. We’ve always been moving around and could never sit still. In 2013, back when YouTube wasn’t that big, we posted videos there. That Christmas, our mom got a webcam and we started posting more frequently and doing cover videos of our favorite artists like Willow Smith. After that, we just started to progress. One day, we did the Bet You Can’t Do It Like Me challenge and uploaded it on YouTube. The video became an overnight sensation and went viral. That’s when our career took off.
Were you surprised to see that you garnered so many followers and subscribers?
Yes, we were surprised, but people kept watching us because we match our styles. We always wear matching outfits and we’re identical twins. We also bring our dances back to our Nigerian roots and that’s what we want to show to our viewers.
What do you want people to get from Diva Sensations?
We want them to be happy and to join us when we dance. We want young creators and young girls to feel inspired and be unafraid to dance or be themselves. If they want to be content creators on YouTube, they should just go for it.
How have your lives changed since Diva Sensations took off?
We do get noticed sometimes when we’re out in public. Most of our followers are based in the US so when we do go to the states, for instance, some of our followers notice us because of our huge following up on TikTok and YouTube.
In what ways are you alike and different? In what ways do your different personalities come out on social media?
Sometimes we disagree, but like at the end of the day, we still get the videos done. We’re both creative. I (Chinonye) like to draw faces and facial expressions and Chiamaka likes to edit videos. But we do both have the taste in clothes and music.
What is the content creation process like?
We pick a certain day to do all our TikTok content. It’s usually on Mondays and we wake up around 10am, do our makeup, and our hair, and pick our clothes. It takes us around four to five hours to get ready but we usually jam out to music, which helps get us inspired. After we get ready, we go outside and shoot our videos with our tripod and one of our iPhones. It takes a whole day – maybe six to eight hours for us to shoot 10 to 15 videos.
Where do you see your brand heading? What’s in store for the future?
We want to create a platform to connect with the black community. We want to make a website where we can give how-to tips on how to grow your network. As people of color, it can be hard to start your own channel. For instance, it’s hard for us to get our name out there so we want to share any advice to help others do the same. Even for us, sometimes we get shadow banned even though we follow guidelines. We also notice that the majority of the dances on TikTok are created by Black people so some people don’t get credit which is not fair, so we want to show awareness and appreciation.
