Four Ways Creators Can Use LinkedIn to Grow Their Audiences

In today’s online environment, content is king, so it’s no surprise that creators are seeking increased tools and outlets to spark engagement and reach new heights. With a vast audience of over 774 million members worldwide and chock-full of posts, videos, courses, and articles shared each day, LinkedIn is an incredibly powerful platform for creators.
Our creators are what keeps the LinkedIn ecosystem alive and thriving, so we’re continuing to focus on ways to foster their success and growth. Over the past year, LinkedIn has put a focus on building new creator-first tools and resources like creator mode to help people build their personal brands, unlock opportunities, and expand and engage their audiences.
Whether you’re just getting started or are hungry for more opportunities to shine, we’re here for you!
Below are four outstanding examples of ways we’ve seen creators leverage LinkedIn tools to diversify their content and grow their following on LinkedIn.
Create Polls to Spark Conversation
Sharing content that opens the door for conversation is a key piece of building an active, engaged audience on LinkedIn.
One easy way to kickstart conversations is by posting a LinkedIn poll for your network to engage with. We’ve seen that people love to weigh in on polls as a quick and easy way to share opinions, even going a step beyond voting by sharing their thoughts in the comments section directly on the poll, striking up a larger conversation
As a creator, polls can also be a great way to better understand your audience and ignite future conversations. For example, Carson Tate often uses polls to ask her network questions related to the workplace, exploring insights from the results in her LinkedIn newsletter, Work Simply.
Boost Followers via Video
We know that communities are most active when they gather in real time. To fuel this engagement and connection, creators and organizations can use LinkedIn Live to broadcast video content to their LinkedIn communities.
For example, creator and best-selling author Minda Harts regularly shares a variety of content on how we can advance and elevate women of color across corporate America. As part of this, Minda hosts a weekly LinkedIn Live show, “Secure The Seat Live,” which builds off the themes from her books The Memo: What Women of Color Need to Know to Secure a Seat at the Table as well as her new book Right Within: How to Heal from Racial Trauma in the Workplace. Through her ongoing platform posts and live video series, Minda has grown her audience to over 21,000 engaged followers.
Publish Newsletters to Spark Consistent Engagement
Put your passion on a page with LinkedIn newsletters, helping you build and activate your community of engaged followers. Your subscribers will receive the latest edition of your content directly to their email inbox as well as be notified on platform whenever you publish something new.
We’ve found that the most successful newsletters dive in deep to a specific topic and are published on a regular cadence. For example, Susan McPherson brings her personal experience as a passionate connector to her bi-weekly LinkedIn newsletter “Connected,” expanding on the ideas in her recent book and highlighting “stories on people driving change through community, breaking barriers, & leading with compassion and dignity.” Her newsletter has amassed over 5,500 subscribers to date!
Build a Group to Create Community
Millions of members come to LinkedIn every day to connect and learn from others. Creators can harness the power of community on the platform by creating Groups for members to easily engage with one another.
During the pandemic, lawyer and creator Patricia Baxter made a LinkedIn Group for female lawyers to come together and share the joys and struggles of working remotely. What started with just 10 lawyers quickly grew to a community of women across the country learning from and leaning on one another. Sparked from their conversations on LinkedIn, the group went on to write a book together about their experience, #Networked, available now on Amazon. Talk about power in numbers!
