How To Become Your Best Health Self-Advocate

Raise your hand if you have “White Coat Syndrome”. You walk into a doctor’s office and suddenly your heart starts racing, your blood pressure goes up, and you find yourself forgetting to ask important questions about your condition. The medical professional examining you says you “look fine”, but you know your body best, and something just isn’t right. You leave feeling discouraged and untreated. We’ve all been there – but that shouldn’t be the case! Far too many women let their symptoms and health irregularities go ignored because they felt unable to express their concerns.
We are partnering with our friends at Invitae to SMASH the voice in your head telling you to keep quiet! At #BlogHer20 Health, we’ll be joined by Invitae’s Mansi Pathak followed by genetic counselor Jenna Finley, The Dimple Life’s Rachel Rhee, and “Super Woman RX’s” Dr. Taz, M.D. for an open conversation on owning your health, crucial symptoms and irregularities to never ignore (and make sure your doctors’ hear), and how screenings and routines play an important part of your health journey at any age. We’ll explore ways to identify the right doctor for your needs, the medical community’s testing recommendations, and how to prepare for your doctor’s appointment with critical bits of information that normally go overlooked.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear medical professionals weigh in on how to best advocate for your most precious asset – YOU! Invitae will kick off their time onstage with a spotlight talk beginning at 12:45pm PST, followed by a powerful “Own Your Health” panel. Be sure to check out our most up-to-date schedule, speakers, and sponsors before February 1st and purchase your ticket to LA’s best health conference!
Meet Our Speakers
MANSI PATHAK
Mansi Pathak is a Marketing Manager at Invitae, a leading medical genetic testing company. As a health & wellness enthusiast herself, Mansi has always been interested in the intersection between the aspects of health you can control — exercise, healthy eating — and those you cannot — your genes. At Invitae, she focuses on educating consumers about the importance of understanding what’s in your genes and how you can use that information to take action to stay healthy today and into the future.
JENNA FINLEY
Jenna Finley is a board-certified, licensed genetic counselor at Invitae, a leading medical genetic testing company. In early 2019, Jenna decided to take Invitae’s Genetic Health Screen to understand if she had an increased risk of developing a hereditary condition. As a healthy young woman with no concerning family history of disease, Jenna was very surprised to find that she carries a mutation that increases her risk for breast cancer by more than twice the average population risk. With this new information, Jenna was able to take action to manage her health moving forward. The experience of being both a genetic counselor and a patient has given Jenna a unique perspective on genetic testing.
