12 Healthy Habits to Make in the Workplace

Whether you’re a CEO, a cubicle queen, or a work from home-wiz, work-life balance can be tricky. It is so important to prioritize your own physical, mental, and emotional well-being – especially when you’re in charge of your own business or side-hustle!

Establish a workzone & keep it clean.
A desk clear of clutter is a desk owned by a productive AF lady! If you’re working from home, establish a “Work Zone”. Designate an area that’s entirely devoted to you being productive. If you’re working from an office, keep your desk clean! Clutter can bog you down. Clean as you go and you won’t feel overwhelmed by the mess!
Come up with designated work hours – and stick to them.
This applies mainly to our WFH friends – but side-hustlers can benefit from this too!
Making a clear plan for when you’ll be grinding and working on building your brand for the day, and when you’ll allow for some distractions. This really helps to focus your mind and lets you get sh*t done!
Surround yourself with healthy snacks.
Mindless eating while stressed is oh-so easy to do. And while there’s no such thing as “bad” foods or “good” foods, there ARE types of foods that will fuel your body for the long day ahead… and types that will have you crashing by 3pm.
Give your body the fuel it deserves by bringing snacks like fruits, nuts, protein bars or hummus and veggies with you.
TAKE A LAP!
Believe it or not, you are not chained to your desk! Although, it may feel that way sometimes…
Next time you hit that midday slump, skip the third or fourth cup of joe and head outside for some fresh air. Take a lap around your building, your block, or even around the office. Getting your body moving will leave you feeling energized and ready to tackle the rest of your day. Plus, a little fresh air never hurt anyone.

On that note… limit the caffeine.
I’m so guilty of not abiding by this one – but it really is true! As a general rule, try to drink no more than five cups max of your bev of choice. And try not to have ANY caffeine after 3pm.
Drinking coffee or tea late in the day can interfere with your sleep, which makes you more tired for work, which means you need more coffee the next day… talk about a negative feedback cycle.
Whistle while you work!
If your office is noisy or if you’re working on something tedious, try plugging into some relaxing background music – or, find a podcast you like (check out our list of best podcasts for bloggers, influencers, and content creators here) and listen to it in the background! You’ll learn more about your craft while de-stressing and relaxing at work. It’s a win/win!
Prioritize your physical health.
Finding time to exercise can be a real struggle, especially if you’re balancing working late with corralling kids or thinking of topics for your youtube channel. But the benefits of incorporating even light exercise for 20 minutes a day are endless – challenge yourself to squeeze some in! Whether it’s taking that mid-day lap as mentioned, or waking up a little earlier for a jog around the block, your body and mind will thank you for taking the time!
Phone-a-friend.
If you’re stuck on a project, sometimes all it takes is a fresh set of eyes to know you’re not going nuts! Grab your favorite office buddy, your partner, even your kid – if there’s someone you trust whose opinion you value, hashing it out with them can help you push past whatever roadblock is in your way.

Reward yourself!
When you do a good job, you deserve a reward. Whether it’s making yourself a fresh pot of coffee (five cups, remember?) or taking a much needed Instagram break, treating yourself to some self-care appropriately throughout the day actually increases your productivity.
This can be tricky when you’re working from home, since all the distractions in the world are right at your fingertips – but trust yourself to not get sucked down the rabbit hole of your outside-of-work to-do list and indulge in a few moments to yourself. You’ll feel refreshed and ready to go when you get back to it!

Bring your own lunch…or take the time to make a great one.
Bringing your own lunch to the office is great for you and your wallet. While ordering out can be a nice treat, it isn’t really sustainable every day. By bringing your own, you’ll be certain about where your ingredients are coming from, and how it tastes!
If you’re working from home, your whole kitchen is right there! Taking the time to prepare a delicious lunch that will leave you feeling satisfied can be a reward in itself.
