Keke Palmer on Silencing the Noise and Finding Her Voice

When asked by StyleCaster’s Entertainment Editor Aramide Tinubu what’s next for Keke Palmer, the actress responded “What’s next? I’m gonna tell you all the truth… I don’t know!” #Relatable. The Hustlers star strives to be a “normal person”, which means creating a “touchable” platform, not making everyone happy, embracing her co-stars and fans, and grinding on her work… but not without a stellar support system!
While speaking at #BlogHer19 Creators Summit, Keke offered life advice from her mom. Her mother never showed Keke she was scared in the face of adversity. Roadblocks weren’t a big deal for her, who was a top contributor to Keke’s success growing up. Now living out her childhood dreams, Keke loves to talk and use her platform to address issues near and dear to her heart. Being a host of GMA 3 has provided an outlet for Keke to bring attention to one of many causes that are important to her: diversity in media. Keke sees a “constant progression” in diversity in the media but admits, “nothing is going to happen boom in a minute.” She’d like to see more diversity behind the screen!
“I think doing this show, GMA 3, it just allows more girls that look like me, more young people that want to do what I’m doing, they know that it’s possible, you know, it’s not something that’s out of reach.”

Although Keke enjoys her time in the spotlight, she advises that it’s okay to give a lot, but also keep stuff for yourself. When writing both her song and book “I Don’t Belong To You”, Keke reminded us of something we could all benefit from hearing again: you can’t make everybody happy. “Let it go. I can’t make 8 million people happy. That’s too much.”
#Facts. Keke does not belong to the box that society attempts to place her in! It’s Keke’s resilience that allows her to shut out critics and pursue her dreams as an actress, singer, activist, and more. As a self-proclaimed “sensitive” person, Keke “feels everything” but wants the world to laugh with her!
“I want to do something that’s going to make people laugh, I want to do something that’s going to make people smile. That’s going to make us say you know what it’s going to be alright.”
Which is exactly why Keke wants to get back into comedy. Did we mention she’s also going to culinary school? The girl is a grinder, and Queen Latifah was one of the first in the industry to notice. Keke’s inspiring message to us all: “Prayer and faith is nothing without hard work.” Even Busy Philipps noticed Keke’s insane work ethic, which she explained while presenting Keke with her surprise Truth Teller #VOTY Award. “This girl has all the talent, all of it, and she should get everything.”
And we know Keke WILL get everything she wants and dreams of, and we look forward to seeing what she does next!
