8 Women Share the Most Powerful Insight They Gained From Running a Business

Statistics show that there are about 13 million women-owned businesses in the US alone and more women than men registered small businesses in 2020. In the last two years, women have had to deal with setbacks brought about by the global pandemic — one in four women in the workforce considered leaving their jobs or downshifting their careers.
Despite this, women continue to play a significant role in the industry and there has been an uptrend in the growth of women-owned businesses. More and more women are successfully paving their paths, dominating various industries, and inspiring others. Today as we celebrate International Women’s day (and every day of the year!), we are thrilled to highlight and applaud the incredible women in our community who are creators, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.
These creators and publishers share the single most powerful insight they’ve learned from being a woman in business.

The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
…showing up as my true self. Sometimes when we first get started in business we want to look like everyone else. We do things that may not resonate with our audience. Really getting clear about who I am and how I wanted to serve my audience was powerful for me.
Jemima Talbot, Vermont Mom
The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
..that every day I am reminded of how powerful mothers are. We raise humans, run households, and create businesses from nothing. The strongest, kindest, most powerful people I know are moms and I am grateful to be able to work within this community.

The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
…is the power of your network. Over the years I’ve been floored by the support and guidance I’ve received from other women, many that whom I’ve only known virtually. Some of these women run 6-figure businesses and are lightyears ahead of me so I’m humbled by their generosity and belief in me and my business. I think it’s important to note that connections and networks don’t just form on their own; you’ve got to network to create a network. Networking is essentially having a genuine interest in others. Much of my network I built in person through the communities I’ve created, attracting like-minded people, and my virtual community of peers came from me reaching out to women I admired. Not to ask for a favor or to take from them but to support their efforts and offer value to them. These once idols became peers, and today many are my friends. A network is a powerful asset for any woman in business.

The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
…be resilient. Be confident in your work. Be a good listener. Be brave in stepping outside your comfort zone. Accept that everything is a learning curve.

The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
That it is truly possible to be a great mom while also being great at running a business. There can be pride in doing both.
Nicole Palmer, Nicole Williams Collective
The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
… to embrace all of who I am because I’m not defined by anyone one thing. And therefore, I’ve had to learn to own my awesomeness and bet on myself because I can’t leave it to others outside of myself to determine my destiny.
Stacey Wallenstein, The Mint Chip Mama
The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
…you gotta keep hustling and moving forward. Research trends, never stop, keep thinking, and strategizing. Be creative, be funny, be unique, be YOU.
Susan Poggio, The Spice Apothecary
The most powerful insight I gained from being a Woman in Business is…
There are NO limits!
Every day I wake up driven and it’s because I’m working towards something that I’m totally invested in. I spent most of my career working in corporate and I never felt like I was making a difference. Being laid off after 20 years of dedicated employment was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I took the chance during the pandemic and started the framework to form my own company. The Spice Apothecary is born from a love of cooking delicious meals for friends and family using only the best of ingredients.
Being a Women-Owned Business is important to me so I can show my teenage daughter and those around me that being a successful woman comes from within. I have engaged with a network of people that support each other and who help to promote one another. It’s so motivating to be surrounded by people who just want to create and connect with others.
Never did I imagine I’d have my own company and I’m humbled by the success I’ve gained so far. I look forward to the path ahead and to seeing what the future will bring.
