Clubhouse Payments—Everything We Know So Far

Clubhouse is growing up fast. It’s been just one year since the social audio app launched and updates continue to launch as quickly as downloads. Whenever a new platform launches, most creators are eager to learn how they can monetize their content. And who could blame them? Most of us spend ample time on social media, making places like Instagram and Facebook important factors to growing an audience. If you’re investing so much time into them (and consequently boosting the platform’s popularity), you might as well be compensated. That’s why Clubhouse Payments exist.
In a blog post earlier this week, the platform emphasized its “guiding principle” of putting the creator first. Or, as they say, “to help creators build community, audience, and impact.”
So far, they’ve done this by tweaking the invitation process, announcing plans for a grant program, and improving safety concerns, to name a few. Now, creators can get paid and pay their favorite creators in the app.
“All users will be able to send payments today, and we’ll be rolling out the ability to receive payments in waves, starting with a small test group today. Our hope is to collect feedback, fine-tune the feature, and roll it out to everyone soon.”
Ready to cash in (or out)? Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting starting, with a few caveats, of course:
- To send a payment in Clubhouse, just tap on the profile of a creator (who has the feature enabled) and tap “Send Money”.
- Enter the amount you would like to send them. The first time you do this, you’ll be asked to register a credit or debit card.
- 100% of the payment will go to the creator. The person sending the money will also be charged a small card processing fee, which will go directly to our payment processing partner, Stripe. Clubhouse will take nothing.
Clubhouse also ended the blog post by sharing that this is just one way creators will be able to monetize their use. What will they think of next?
